SOLA festival 2017

SOLA is an annual festival for experimental music and film. The third iteration of the festival offers a selection of adventurous music and the films of the Scottish filmmaker, 2012 Turner prize nominee, Luke Fowler. The first day of SOLA features different viewpoints on the versatile modular synthesizer. Jonas Broberg, Mesak and Tsembla all have their own way of using the instrument. Also on Friday, Fowler's documentary of Martin Bartlett offers a poetic take on a relatively unknown, proudly gay Canadian composer, who pioneered the use of computer in music.

On the second day the improvised, explosive free jazz of meets the hazy beats and outsider rap of Draama-Helmi and the hallucinatory alto saxophones and electronics of Bruit Props. The second programme of Fowler's films, the film cycle 'A Grammar for Listening', investigates the meaningful dialogue between looking and listening.

The festival is organized by the non-profit association Välirivi ry in collaboration with WHS Teatteri Union.
