Saturday 31.10. 18.30
Müge Yıldız is an artist filmmaker and doctoral researcher at Aalto University, Finland, whose practice explores experimental moving images through analogue film, installation, biological materials, and non-human processes. Working across Super 8, 16mm, and 35mm, she combines filmmaking with material experimentation, handmade systems, and ecological approaches to image-making. Ghosts, rocks, and bacteria hold a special place in her practice and imagination, recurring as different forms of presence, matter, memory, and more-than-human life. Her works have been exhibited and screened internationally, including at the BFI London Film Festival, Images Festival Toronto, Helsinki Biennial, Anthology Film Archives, Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris, France, and numerous experimental film and media-art festivals. Her work has received support from Taike, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Frame Finland, IKSV's SaDe Artist Support Fund, SAHA, and the RE: Focus Fund Canada.

Non/Living Super 8mm 10'30'' 2024 Finland- Türkiye
Non/Living explores the partnership between Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast) and a non-living ghost archaeologist. The film seeks a middle ground between human and non-human beings while exploring ecological filmmaking and materialist films. The filmmaker conducted several experiments to find the best recipe to produce a movie with yeast, focusing on the intersection of art and science, including process-based experimentation and surface-based or cameraless filmmaking. During the screening, the silent film is open to human and nonhuman sound interventions.

I was a ghost myself Super 8mm 27' 30'' 2022 Türkiye
I Was a Ghost Myself is an experimental Super 8 film exploring ghosts, memory, place, and traces of the past through psychogeographic filmmaking. Shot over two years across archaeological sites, underground spaces, and personal locations in Turkey, the film follows an intuitive movement through landscapes shaped by personal and historical associations. Working with various expired Super 8 film stocks and different cameras, Yıldız uses chance, material degradation, and wandering as filmmaking methods, letting places, memories, and spectral presences shape the film.
